“Rowley is very fine, revealing a big, rich, dramatic voice, more naturally suited, perhaps, to the Trovatore Leonora than to Violetta, though the long lines of ‘Dite alla giovine’ are beautifully sustained. Adriana Lecouvreur’s ‘Io son l’umile ancella’ is graciously done, and she really throws herself into Chimène’s ‘Pleurez, pleurez mes yeux’ from Massenet’s Le Cid with great intensity.”

[Soprano Jennifer Rowley…presents a voice that is even more expressive because it leaps with lyrical evidence, from its firm low to an intense midrange (of a firm and supple metal when necessary) and especially to its high range. It is scintillating, very vibrant as well, but with great freshness. The blue dress she wears for the second part sparkles with each movement, like the cascade of diamonds in her timbre and the river of tears that she sings (“Cry, cry, my eyes”, aria by Chimène in Le Cid)]
