On January 25 and 26, Jennifer Rowley joins the Richmond Symphony to the title role in Giacomo Puccini’s gripping Tosca. The fiery heroine is a signature role for Rowley, who has previously sung the role at The Metropolitan Opera, Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Opera San Antonio, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Seoul Arts Center, Nashville Opera, and New Orleans Opera, among others.
Of her recent Tosca at Teatro Petruzzelli, Fiorella Sassanelli of La Repubblica said, “Jennifer Rowley sketches out a round leading role: a Tosca who is capricious, even frivolous, burning with passion but at the same time strong and courageous, who rages against Scarpia, finishing him with stabs, with hatred, and even derision, while the projection of two giant ice-cold photographs prefigures her justice.”
The performance will be in concert, under the baton of Valentina Peleggi and featuring the Richmond Symphony Chorus and Greater Richmond Children’s Choir.
