Jennifer Rowley joins distinguished soprano Lauren Flanigan as part of her annual “Comfort Ye…” concert to raise funds for organizations that serve the homeless in New York City. Created by Lauren Flanigan and her longtime friend and collaborator Kamal Khan, “Comfort Ye…” is an operatic concert that aims to raise food, coats, and awareness specifically related to hunger, homeless, and the underserved residents of New York City’s Upper West Side.
Marking the concert’s 24th year, “Comfort Ye…” returns on December 22 at 7 pm at the St. Paul and St. Andrew United Methodist Church. For admission to the concert please bring a donation of either a warm winter coat or blanket, or a shopping bag full of non-perishable food items, or 3 packages of baby diapers, or a brand-new unwrapped toy suitable for a child under 10 years of age. All donations are delivered immediately after the concert to the food pantry at St. Paul and St. Andrew’s Church which houses the West Side Campaign Against Hunger. Tickets to the concert are $40.00 in lieu of donated items.
Artists are not announced for the event each year. As Lauren says, “It’s a trust exercise. You promise to bring me a bag of food and a blanket and I will provide you with three thrilling hours of operatic entertainment.” Past performers have included Eric Owens, Pretty Yende, Nadine Sierra, Janai Bruger, Dwayne Croft, Fabio Armiliato, Veronica Villaroel, Michael Chioldi, Angela Meade, Raul Melo, Mark Delavan, Amy Burton and John Musto, Anthony Laciura, Luthando Qave, Harolyn Blackwell, Andrea Gruber, William Bolcom and Joan Morris, and Miss Flanigan.
