Jennifer Rowley travels to Florence for her debut at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino as Leonora in Il trovatore. Ms. Rowley has established herself as one of the most sought-after Leonoras in recent years, portraying the iconic role at the Met, Opéra de Paris, West Australian Opera and Opéra de Lille.
Directed by Francesco Micheli, Fabio Luisi will take the podium and lead the Orchestra and Chorus of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and an esteemed roster of artists. Running September 13 through 22, the cast includes Piero Pretti as Manrico, Massimo Cavaletti as Conte di Luna, Olesya Petrova as Azucena, Gabriele Sagona as Ferrando, and Alessandra Della Croce as Ines. Her recent portrayal of the Verdi heroine at the Opéra Bastille gained critical acclaim:
“[H]er Leonora is – at the beginning of the plot – a very young a passionate and voluptuous girl, a design that holds true thanks to the freshness of the singer’s youthful tone, her brilliant sound and her ability to emit beautiful spun lines which are marvelous in her entrance aria “Tacea la notte placida” and the cabaletta that follows, where she seems perfectly at ease.” (Forum Opéra)
